About Newness of Life

A New Life in Christ.

Newness of LifeWhen we give our lives to Christ, a new person is born (John 3:3). Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus asked Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” Jesus, of course, was not speaking of a physical birth, but a spiritual birth. Jesus goes on to say (John 5:24), ” Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My Word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgement, but has passed out of death into life.” Here, Jesus is referring to the new life that occurs in the birth of the spirit within each of us.

Spiritual Growth is the Christian’s goal.

Once we have been reborn, spiritual growth is essential in the life of the believer. In order to grow, we must study God’s word, spend time in prayer and meditation and take what wBible Studye learn from the knowledge and the promises of God and apply it to our daily lives. Think of training a child. There is much we have to teach our children about the world, their community, family, morals, faith, responsibility, general education, etc. The same is true of our Father. He wants to teach each of us how to grow spiritually. Through our spiritual growth, our relationship with our Father will deepen.

Our Spiritual Helper.

The Apostle Paul adds to our understanding of spiritual development when he states (1 Cor. 3:1,2), “And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to babes in Christ. I give you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able.” As with a child, our spiritual growth takes time. There are many things that God wants to teach us, and He provides us with help. Jesus states (John 14:26), “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you”.
